Dr. Franz G. Deitering has been in different leading HR Management in German and American corporations before he became Global Head of HR- and Organizational Development of SAP in 1996. In 2001 he went from Human Resources into Solution Sales supporting hundreds of SAP customers like Bosch, Siemens, Philip Morris, Colgate, NSW, Sinopec, Reliance, Coca-Cola etc, in all regions and industries on the globe.

In 2006 Franz became Global Head of Business Development for Digitalization of Shared Services Solutions at SAP translating customer needs into high value business solutions. In 2011 Franz was promoted to the newly created role as Global Head of Solution Management for Digitalization of Global Business Services. He got elected by members of SSON – the biggest Shared Services Network globally twice as one of the top global 6 experts in this area.

Franz completed his career of 21 years with SAP in April 2017 and became the Co-Founder of the Global Future of Work Foundation. He got his Masters in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and his PhD. in Organizational Development. He published two books and many articles on different business topics and gives lectures in Germany at the Universities of Heidelberg, Mannheim and Osnabrück and is a Visiting Professor at ESADE Business School in Barcelona.

1. What topic will you address in your paper? 

Based on my experience with 30 years in HR and 15 years in IT I will focus on two aspects.                                               The first part will address how far digitalization can go in HR. The second part will address HR’s role in supporting the digitalization of the core business.

2. Could you briefly explain how far goes digitalization in HR?

There is no end to see how far digitalization goes in HR. The speed and the depth and breadth is increasing significantly.

3. Do you think that the HR department should direct the process of digitizing a company? If so, explain why.

If HR is very strong in digitalization it’s own function it can play a lead role or at least a strong supporting role in digitalization of the core business. Many mature HR leaders are strong Business Partners. With the experience and credibility of having done the change in HR they can be very supportive.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having the HR department lead the digitization process?

The advantages are that they know what they are talking about if they have done it in HR. They also can support with all HR related expertise like change management etc.                                                                                                                   The disadvantage might be that HR is not close enough to the core business and not a truly accepted Business Partner.

5. What are your expectations about the Conference?

To meet great brains, innovators and entrepreneurs and curious participants.
